Brief Introduction:
Potassium iodide (KI) is an odorless, white solid that is soluble in water and plays an important role in a variety of applications. It is not only used in the medical field as a thyroid protectant and expectorant, but can also be combined with a non-radioactive iodine saturated solution (SSKI) to deal with severe hyperthyroidism symptoms, radioactive iodine contamination emergencies, or in preparation for thyroidectomy. Studies have shown that KI has a significant effect on protein structure and physicochemical properties, especially at high concentrations, KI can bind to proteins more stably and cause protein conformational changes, such as a significant increase in the hydrodynamic radius of bovine serum albumin and ovalbumin. In addition, KI synergizes with organic compounds in acidic media to enhance corrosion inhibition. For example, in the corrosion inhibition experiment of XC70 steel in 1.0 M HCl solution, the addition of KI improves the effect of PNM inhibitors, with an inhibition efficiency of up to 94%. KI has also been used to reduce the black staining problem after the application of silver diamine fluoride (SDF), effectively improving the aesthetic effect by forming yellow water-insoluble silver iodide (AgI).
Potassium iodide is a salt, formed by combining potassium (K) with iodide (I).
Specifically, it is a halide salt, as it is composed of iodine, a halogen element.
Potassium iodide is an iodide compound, meaning it contains the iodide ion (I⁻).
It is used in medicine, particularly in the treatment of iodine deficiency, as a thyroid protection in radiological emergencies, and in certain diagnostic procedures.
It is often used in chemical laboratories as a reagent in various chemical reactions and tests, such as in the preparation of iodine solutions.
Potassium iodide is used in various industrial applications, including photography, and as a stabilizer in some chemical processes.
With certifications like GMP, ISO 9001-2015, ISO 14001-2015, and ISO 45001-2018, Jyoti Chemicals demonstrates its commitment to quality management systems, environmental responsibility, and occupational health and safety. The firm continues to expand its reach and improve its offerings, solidifying its position as a leader in the chemical industry.
