  • Brief Introduction:

    Methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride (MTHPA) is a cyclic dicarboxylic anhydride that exists as a cyclic anhydride of methyltetrahydrophthalic acid and has attracted attention for its low toxicity, low volatility and low cost in a variety of industrial applications. MTHPA can be used to modify corn starch (CS) by wet esterification to produce esterified corn starch (MeCS) with different degrees of substitution (DS). This modification can significantly change its crystal structure, surface morphology and contact angle, thereby improving its hydrophobicity and emulsification stability, especially for stabilizing Pickering emulsions. In addition, MTHPA has also been studied as a curing agent for epoxy resin insulation materials. However, its hygroscopicity affects the dielectric properties of the final prepared epoxy resin insulation materials. Studies have shown that as the water content of MTHPA increases, the relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor of epoxy resin insulation materials increase, and the breakdown strength and surface resistivity decrease. At the same time, MTHPA, when combined with other carbon nanomaterials such as multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and graphene nanosheets (GnPs), can significantly affect the curing behavior of epoxy/vinyl ester interpenetrating polymer network nanocomposites, reduce the activation energy of the reaction, and improve the properties of the nanocomposites.
